History of EasyGuide™
The EasyGuide dental implant planning and placement system is an evolution of CADImplant; a planning software and surgical guidance system that was developed 12 years ago at TIMC Lab, a leading robotics laboratory in France dedicated to computer assisted medical and surgical intervention. This research was developed in collaboration among TIMC, Joseph Fourier University of Grenoble, and the University of Lyon. Thomas Fortin, DDS, PhD, is Professor of Oral Surgery at the University of Lyon and developed a product that was the forerunner of CADImplant. In 1997, Guillaume Champleboux, PhD, oversaw the commercialization and industrialization of CADImplant and is the patent holder for the product. The system was developed to be both user–friendly and restoratively–driven. CADImplant has been CE marked since 2002 and FDA cleared since 2004.
The first clinical case was performed in January 1988 and since that time more than 900 surgical templates have been created, representing placement of more than 3000 implants using the CADImplant system. Clinical research and evaluation continues to be performed and numerous clinical papers and publications have already been published.
CADImplant was purchased by Keystone Dental in 2006. Since that time, Keystone has partnered with a US based software company to significantly improve the three–dimensional volumetric and surface rendering of the patient’s CT scan data in the CADImplant software – the updated product is now referred to as EasyGuide. The techniques and mathematical algorithms that are used to create the surgical guides are from the original CADImplant system and thus have proven accuracy and a number of years of clinical experience behind them.
